In 2004 Federal legislation was changed prohibiting a removalist company from offering its customers an insurance policy. A policy, now, by law, can only be offered by a licensed insurance broker.

Insurance for moving has become more like car insurance.  A removalist company will carry a policy to cover itself, and a customer will need their own policy to be fully covered. In the occurrence of a claim, the customer will claim through their policy, and their insurer will enforce the matter through the removalist policy. Please note you are not automatically covered under any Australian removalist companies insurance policy.
